Net-Zero Target

POLICY STATEMENT: NET-ZERO TARGET – HEALTH RECOVERY NETWORK LTD [HRN]

INTRODUCTION: Health Recovery Network (HRN) is equipped with our affiliated partners in procurement and supply chain for NHS. In line with NHS requirements for effective management during the lifetime of the Net-Zero framework agreement. HRN set the auditing objectives to ensure that our suppliers either meet ‘NET-ZERO’ objectives or are working towards meeting those carbon reduction objectives. One of the standard benchmark sets is the legal framework for delivering emissions reductions in our supply chain processes. This implies that the UK legislation of 2019 to reach Net-Zero target has become the standard benchmark for the company. This is Procurement Policy Note (PPN) which has been embedded into NHS policy terms of: a) NHS Carbon Footprint, and b) NHS Carbon Footprint Plus. These are the principles adopted by NHS in their procurement policy guidelines using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP) as measures to achieve processes. This should be the trajectory for the net-zero emission goals identified.

OBJECTIVES – HRN as a supply chain contractor will verify that our supplier remains committed to achieving Net Zero prior to entering any contract awarded for procurement enroute supply to NHS. HRN will adopt and apply all the relevant provisions of NHS net-zero carbon emission as required. It is important to follow the pathways to net-zero carbon emissions. Delivering this, would require enabling actions through collaborative partnerships outside the NHS such as:

a) Direct intervention with outside suppliers from the use of electric van to zero carbon, emission-friendly factory, and warehouses. This will be achieved through periodical auditing and verification processes.

b) CRP Implementation – Carbon Reduction Plan: HRN commitment is to achieving net-zero in all our procurement and supply to the NHS. This requires the ISO 14001:2015. HRN is taking steps to implement those standards of ‘Environmental Management System Certification’. These standards are enshrined into net-zero carbon emissions.

As a company (operating in Kent), we will take a leading role in achieving the aspirations set out in NHS net zero target policy to reach an 80% reduction by 2028 to 2032 in all our contractual obligations. With our environmental quality assurance, the company is rightly placed to influence the carbon footprint plus to reach the ambitious target of 80% reduction in emission by the end of decade.

ACTION PLAN:

HRN journey towards net-zero emissions by 2030 –

The location and the buildings we occupy is a leading example of sustainable real commercial estate with business operations and business travel will be carbon neutral this year and subsequent. We hope to build on these successes by increasing the scope, scale, and impact of the company’s carbon reduction action plan:

By 2030, HRN will:

  • offset all residual operational and value chain emissions through high-quality supply schemes
  • reduce business travel emissions by 50 per cent per FTE
  • ensure that more than 67 per cent of suppliers have set their own 1.5oC aligned carbon reduction targets (by emissions)
  • ensure our suppliers delivery van & truck fleet are either 100 % electric or hybrid plug-in
  • ensure single-use products supplied to NHS Supply Chain are made of renewable carbon reduction materials, and can be 100% recyclable
  • source 100 per cent renewable electricity for our buildings

Supply chain

  • commitments to NHS guidelines to substitute for low-carbon alternatives when and where they are available with our affiliated partners through our supply chain processes
  • meeting NHS Carbon Footprint Plus with consideration for reductions of emissions from medical and non-medical equipment, particularly medical consumables procurement and health care services that are outside NHS
  • working in conjunction with our affiliated partners to ensure that our supplies to NHS are meeting decarbonisation processes and goal targets

TOOL & PROCESSESS:

Reaching net zero is a crucial step in the fight against climate change. This is a real opportunity to redesign our business model with reduced dependency on fossil fuels health care solution-based-products. Our purpose and values require the company to work with our customers, alliance partners, suppliers, stakeholders (NHS) and other affiliates with tools and processes for carbon reduction.

There are four steps processes applicable:

  • Ethical supply chain frameworks: Our management team help set a strategy and framework to ethically manage our suppliers.
  • Supply chain risk analysis and mitigation: Our team can identify key vulnerabilities in the supply chain and how best to manage them.
  • Supply chain traceability and product lifecycle analysis: Real-time tracking and sourcing intelligence gives the visibility across our supply chain networks.
  • Supply chain risk management technology and innovation: New technological developments such as CMS to help ethically manage the extensive network of suppliers.

REPORTING:

Our sustainability reporting and assurance services explained:

  • Sustainability report advice
Our sustainability reporting services will support internal teams to assess the impact of the existing sustainability policies, measure risk, and create value-chains through ‘Environmentally Sustainable Governance’ (ESG) reporting.
  • Climate change reporting
Measure our performance on climate change by connecting decarbonisation efforts to a recognised framework like the in-house Taskforce for Climate Disclosures (TCFD).
  • Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) compliance
Sustainability reporting by the UK through government guidelines states that companies will be required to report publicly on their energy use and carbon emissions. We support clients to achieve compliance and contribute to the fight against climate change.
  • Sustainability assurance
HRN is choosing to receive assurance on sustainability reporting, ensuring that sustainability strategy is standing up to stakeholder scrutiny and meeting the NHS governance goals.
  • Ethical supply chain disclosure and reporting: With our support, you can be sure that the supply chain reporting meets compliance needs and roots out unethical practices

Feedback and improvements

  1. Measure – the company will, and can, only manage carbon reduction if we understand the scale of net-zero target. That is, execution accuracy of carbon reduction plan (CRP), while significant, should be engaged measurably.
  2. Capital – once the ambitious target to net zero begins, the company would seek capital improvement to fund the company supplies from ethical banks with greener, sustainable policies for our suppliers, and to find more capital-efficient ways of working with customers and stakeholders in partnerships.
  3. Transformation – HRN will drive change for improvements through our products and services supplied by working with our customers to embed responsible climate practices towards achieving net-zero targets set by NHS.
  4. Renewable – HRN will strive to improve products supplies generated from renewable materials.
  5. Engagement – HRN will continue to engage with stakeholders (NHS), government agencies and organisations for onward directions, strategy and guidance to continually improve our ‘Positive Climate Change Effects’ such as greener health; and to deliver a net-zero health service.

TRANSPARENCY:

HRN policy on periodical audit and performance measurement will ensure public and commercial interests are the focal point of our corporate governance on carbon reduction plan to meet net-zero target.

It is, indeed, for these policies stated that we can all collectively have positive impacts to influence our climate environment to Live Well and Feel Well.
